Glossary
I often use terms or abbreviations in my articles that you might want to check out, these are also used inside Second Life and/or the roleplaying crowd of the game, so it might be a good idea to know what the others are talking about (especially when you don’t want to get harassed, banned or shot)

Second Life in general
- SL: Second Life
- Lindens, L$, Linden Dollars: the official currency of SL, can be exchanged for real currency and you can get it back out from SL once you decide to do so
- Avatar, AV, avvie: your in game character (the 3D representation of you in SL)
- AFK: Away from Keyboard (often means that you do something else in RL while your avatar is sitting around or dancing, …)
- RL: Real Life
- Sim: a sim is a piece of land in SL, where one who owns or rents it can place buildings
- Prim: a prim is a part of an object (3D object to be precise) in SL. many things consist of more than on prim (pl. prims)
- Drama: means that you take your RL worries to SL, which is generally disdained because SL is SL and RL is RL
- Griefing: means to harass another avvie by means of language, objects (cages, orbiters, …) or otherwise. Disdained!
- Neko: japanese for cat, refers to people who dress like cats or use cat ears, tails and stuff on their AV
- Furry: an AV that resembles an animal
- LC, Lucky Chair: a lucky chair has a letter on it, which changes in a certain interval. when your AV’s name starts with the letter and you sit down on the LC, you get a free gift
- Flexibles, Flexi, Flexiprim: prims can be static (e.g. a box) or flexi, which means the SL physics apply to it (e.g. hair that is moving with the wind). flexiprims are commonly more realistic, but may be costly
- Groups, Group titles, Tags: if you join a group in SL (most groups are free, some want a fee for joining), you get a group tag which is visible above your AV’s head (e.g. Gothenon Worshipper, Elite Member, Escort Oasis Member, …)
- HUD: stands for Heads Up Display and refers mainly to some sort of control panel, that can be attached to your AV and which provides for advanced options (e.g. an AO HUD allows for smoother walking, standing and flying animations of your AV or an RP HUD gives you special options need for roleplaying)
- Rezzing, Rez: to rez means to create something in the 3D world or make it appear (e.g. your avatar is fully rezzed means you are loaded and fully visible in the world)
- Cage: caging refers to trapping another avatar by surrounding him or her with an object thus not allowing him or her to escape
- Orbiter: an orbiter can send you up miles into the orbit, not allowing you to fall down to earth in reasonable time (can be fixed by teleporting or relogging in extreme cases)
- TP, tp’ed, …: means teleporting, the common means of travel in SL
- Bling: particle shimmer effects (jewelry may have this)
- AO: animation override, overrides the standard (clumsy) SL animations with better ones
